The Blood Feast
Often accompanying
other ritae, the Blood Feast is a formal dinner for
the Sabbat, as much a social event as it is a sacred
ceremony. Many Sabbat take the opportunity to show
off their finery and compete in social games and
intrigues. Blood Feasts are also excellent times to
introduce newly Initiated Sabbat into Cainite
society. Still, the Blood Feast remains one of the
auctoritas ritae and is steeped in religious
significance. It is a time for Sabbat to revel in
their superiority as predators over the mortal prey.
While some cities may practice Blood Feasts up to
twice a year outside of other ritae, performing the
ritual excessively becomes sacrilegious.
Several nights before the Feast, a specially
assembled hunting party gathers mortals for the
event, attempting to retrieve them alive and as
unharmed as possible; captured non-Sabbat vampires
are a rare if special treat. The hunters present
their prey to the ranking Sabbat officer in the city
before the night of the Feast. During the Blood
Feast these vessels are suspended from the ceiling
or secured on ground level for easy feeding. The
presiding officer often delivers a Sermon of Caine,
and receives first blood.
The Blood Feast intensifies the potency of the
vessels' blood, doubling its nourishment. Each blood
trait consumed during the Feast grants two blood
traits for the purposes of blood spending, while
only occupying one trait of the vampire's blood
pool. These last for three nights before the
additional potency fades.
The Sabbat, The Camarilla, and the Anarchs are fictional sects of vampires,
from White Wolf Game Studio's Vampire: The Masquerade books and role-playing games.
