Fire Dance
Fire is one of the two
principle banes of the vampiric race, and one of the
most powerful weapons which the Sabbat can direct
against its enemies. This mastery over a source of
immortal terror would be impossible without the Fire
Dance. By overcoming the innate fear of fire the
Sabbat strengthen themselves against the greatest
foe of all: their own fear and doubt.
The presiding priest lights a great ritual bonfire
while the participants circle the fire to the tune
of rhythmic chanting, drums or music. When the
impetus strikes, each Sabbat member in turn leaps
through the flames, demonstrating their mastery over
the fire. No one is forced to participate until they
are ready, but repeated refusals to jump gives the
appearance of cowardice. The rite lasts until all
participants have jumped at least once.
Due to the trance state induced by the Fire Dance,
the Courage check imposed by the bonfire is only two
traits. The jump requires a Static Physical
Challenge (generally against five traits). After
jumping all voluntary participants increase their
Courage ratings by one for the evening.
The Sabbat, The Camarilla, and the Anarchs are fictional sects of vampires,
from White Wolf Game Studio's Vampire: The Masquerade books and role-playing games.
