Sabbat Festivals
Unlike the Camarilla, the Sabbat celebrate several annual festivals.
These are sect-wide celebrations, with huge turnout
in major Sabbat strongholds around the world,
and many smaller celebrations scattered around
wherever Sabbat packs may be roaming.
Palla Grande
The close of the Sabbat
year, the "Grand Ball" is a celebration of all that
is dignified and darkly refined about the vampiric
spirit. It is highest event in the sect calendar,
surpassing even the week of Festivo in grandeur and
significance. It is a reminder that the Cainite is a
proud, noble, and dignified creature, superior to
mortals in quality and refinement in addition to
prowess. Taking place on the night of All Hallow
Eve, the Palla Grande hosts the best in music,
entertainment, and dining, as well as costuming on a
level inaccessible to lesser creatures.
The night before the Palla Grande begins, the
presiding priest prepares incense burners filled
with exotic herbs and chemicals, combined with the
priest's own blood. When the Palla Grande begins on
All Hallows Eve, it does so in the guise of a
legitimate public party filled with unsuspecting
mortals. Each vampire participating in the event
contributes blood to one or more of the incense
burners and the resulting pink haze relaxes the
mortals and makes them more willing to accept the
strange sights of the Ball and the strange behavior
of their Cainite hosts.
The second part of the Palla Grande occurs
privately, although some mortals may be included as
additions to the great Blood Feast. When midnight
arrives, an acting troupe organized by the presiding
priest presents a theatrical reenactment of some
significant event in Cainite history; this play is
as much a point of education (or perhaps propaganda)
as it is a piece of entertainment. Audience
participation is often a key part of the
performance. Following the play, the city's Arch
Bishop (or ranking Bishop if there is no Arch
Bishop) receives a highly symbolic Blood Bath.
Following this, the attending vampires dance until
dawn as the Grand Ball collapses into a frenzy of
celebration and feeding.
In addition to the normal effects of the Blood Feast
and Blood Bath, the Palla Grande's participants all
replenish their Willpower. The recipient of the
symbolic Blood Path may make a Mental Challenge
against any participant to gain access to their
perceptive or oracular powers for the night.
