The auctoritas ritae
are the principle rituals and high holy days of the
Sabbat. They are practiced universally throughout
the sect in essentially identical fashion, providing
a much needed basis of stability among an otherwise
chaotic society. Indeed, it may well be the power of
the auctoritas ritae which allows the
hierarchy of the Sabbat it's rigid and iron-bound
structure.
No one is required to observe the auctoritas
ritae as a matter of course (observance of the
ritae should be a matter of faith and devotion, not
duty), but refusing to take part in the holiest of
Sabbat rituals looks very suspicious and may well
bring one's loyalty into doubt. Questioning the
importance or necessity of these rites is tantamount
to heresy, while abusing or mis-performing them in
either spirit or form is an act of blasphemy.
